Investing in the Stock Market

What is the Stock Market?

The stock market is an exchange where stockbrokers and traders can buy and sell shares of a publicly listed company.

The stock market serves two purposes. The first purpose is to provide companies with capital and the second purpose is to give those who purchase shares the opportunity to profit from buying them at a lower price and selling at a higher price and in some cases earn dividends (a given amount of money per share of stock someone owns).

That’s not to say you are guaranteed to make money if you were to invest in the stock market.

The value of investments can fall as well as rise, and you might get back less than you invested. You should only consider these products if you are willing to take some risk with your capital.

But judging from past results investing in the stock market is more than likely to improve your financial wealth in the long run.

We will consider whether such products are suitable for you before recommending such an investment.

Here are a few reasons why you should invest in the stock market:

  1. The ability to protect your wealth from inflation. Judging from past years, the returns of the stock market often significantly outpace the rate of inflation.

  2. It is very liquid compared to other investments. You can buy and sell stocks in a click of a second, which makes stocks a more liquid investment compared to other options like real estate. This means if you need your money urgently you are able to take it out in a matter of days compared to real estate which could take months.

  3. Lower transaction costs and fees. Investing in the stock market is cheaper than other investments such as real estate.

  4. Earn a passive income through dividend stocks.
